Rev. Anthony RaymondVicar of Trim from 1705 until his death, and presented to the Crown living of Moyenet, two miles from Trim, in July 1713. Former Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin. A frequent host of Swift, Stella and Dingley at his vicarage two miles from Laracor, Raymond visited London on business on several occasions between 1710 and 1713. He entered into several financial arrangements with Swift, who criticises him, despite their friendship, for his prodigality and unreliability. He is described by Deane Swift as ‘tall handsome and graceful’. A scholar of the Irish language, he translated Keating’s The General History of Ireland (1723). |
